Connecticut Employers

Don’t forget, starting Monday, August 1, new tax tables are in effect for Connecticut withholding for your employees. If you use a payroll service, you should not have to do a thing as they should have the most up-to-date tax tables. If you manually calculate payroll, the new withholding tax tables are available on the Department of Revenue Services website at http://www.ct.gov/drs/cwp/view.asp?a=1509&q=444766. As always, we are available for questions.

Connecticut has new sales tax rate

Effective July 1, 2011:

  • The general sales and use tax increases from 6% to 6.35%
  • The room occupancy tax increases from 12% to 15%
  • And the renting of a passenger motor vehicle for a period of 30 consecutive calendar days or less increases from 6% to 9.35%

Some of the sales tax exemptions have been repealed including clothing under $50 and nonperscription drugs and medicines

And there over 10 new taxable services starting July 1 as well. This includes:

  • Yoga instruction
  • Pet grooming
  • Manicure, pedicure and all other nail services
  • Spa services

A complete list of all of the changes is available on the DRS website.
