Marcia L. Marien, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), is the Managing Partner of Marien + Company, LLC, as well as the Partner in Charge of the firm’s Accounting and Auditing Divisions.

Having continued her professional education, Marcia primarily focuses on accounting and auditing for governments and not-for-profit organizations. She obtained her Certificate of Educational Achievement from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in not-for-profit accounting and auditing and in governmental accounting and auditing. 

Marcia is a member of the AICPA and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA). She is on the Board of Governers of the CSCPA and a member of the audit committee. Since 1990, she has been a member of the CSCPA’s Technical Government Accounting and Auditing Committee. She has also served on the following CSCPA Committees: Peer Review, Not-For-Profit, and Community Relations. Marcia is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the Connecticut Government Officers Association and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

Marcia volunteers for numerous organizations in various leadership roles.  Since 1989, she has volunteered as the Southern Connecticut representative for Community Aid in Accounting Services (CAAS). This statewide, not-for-profit organization is designed to help underprivileged individuals and organizations with accounting and tax matters.  In addition, Marcia has been an active member of the Montessori Discovery School Board of Trustees, since 1995, including serving as president, vice president, and treasurer, as well as president and treasurer of the Parent’s Association.

A frequent speaker for community, not-for-profit and government groups, Marcia was honored with the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Accounting Advocate of the Year Award in recognition of her commitment to the local community. She has also been featured in articles in the Connecticut CPA as well as the National Journal of Accountancy.

Marcia graduated “Magna Cum Laude” from the University of Connecticut, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She passed the CPA exam in 1984 in her first sitting. She has been a CPA since 1987.
