Thomas O. Marien, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), is the Founder and Senior Partner of Marien + Company, LLC. Tom oversees the firm’s Tax, Business Advisory and Business Valuation Divisions.

Tom is responsible for the firm’s business clients, which represent many diverse industries, including construction, manufacturing, real estate, retail and professional services. He also directs services to individual clients, including a full range of planning services to establish and monitor goals for college, retirement and estate planning. In addition, he keeps abreast of reporting requirements for individuals, fiduciaries and estates.

A Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Tom is a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA). The CVA designation is held by an elite group of individuals dedicated to the most professional standards in the specialized field of business valuations. To earn this designation, Tom completed a rigorous training program, passed a lengthy exam and demonstrated his experience with a comprehensive valuation project.

Acting on his personal commitment to the community, Tom has been actively involved in the leadership of various civic and not-for-profit organizations. Tom is a volunteer of Community Aid and Accounting Services (CAAS), a statewide, not-for-profit organization. In this role, Tom assists underprivileged individuals and organizations with their accounting and tax matters. He has served as chairman of the Norwich Redevelopment Agency and has remained involved in several other boards and special study groups for the city. He has also served in leadership roles on the boards of numerous other not-for-profit organizations in Southeastern Connecticut.

A frequent speaker for community, not-for-profit and business groups, Tom received the Small Business Advocate Award from the area Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his community support and active involvement.

Tom is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA). He graduated “Summa Cum Laude” from the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and began his public accounting career in a national firm’s Hartford office. Tom received a Masters of Business Administration degree (MBA) from the University of Connecticut.
